We are situated on the Bootham end of Gillygate, just around the corner from Bootham Bar and the Minster. Our garden backs on to the City Walls.
Both Gillygate and Bootham are busy thoroughfares with many tourists from the Coach Park passing by.
Being central and in close proximity to the Minster enhances the impression we make on our customers, making us more memorable and easy to locate again.
The garden at the rear of the Café is hugely popular in the summer months and in order to extend the season that the garden is available we have recently installed an awning and heaters so that it is more comfortable to eat outside on chillier evenings.
We believe that our location particularly appeals to the visitor market who enjoy eating outside, near to the city centre attractions yet in a calm peaceful environment.
Chris Pragnell took over the premises of Café No.8 in October 2002 and changed it from a small coffee house into a popular eating place. Martin Gore joined Chris as a Partner in the business in June 2004. Building on Chris’s reputation for good food and with Martin’s new input in managing the front of house the business went from strength to strength, undergoing a major interior refurbishment in January 2005. The Café is still growing and continues to increase its customer base both in York and further afield receiving rave reviews for both food and service.
